2004-07-22 - 9:12 p.m. We used to go to KiddieLand every summer. KiddieLand is a small amusement park in Melrose Park, Illinois. It had just enough rides to keep us occupied, including a small roller coaster called the "Little Dipper." When we moved to Wisconsin, Grandpa would often return to Illinois with me for the weekend. We'd stay at K-K and Ri-Ri's house. One weekend, Grandpa dropped K-K and I off at KiddieLand. This particular day was rather humid, and KiddieLand was quite vacant. I was able to repeatedly ride the rides without waiting in long lines! One of my favorite rides was the large pirate ship that swung back and forth. I rode the ship all day, seeing as I nearly had my run of the park. On a break from the pirate ship, I begged for and received a fluffy, pink mass of cotton candy on a stick. Though a web of spun sugar surely traps children, the lure of the pirate ship was too much. I left K-K on a bench to hold my cotton candy while I rode the pirate ship once more, twice more, thrice more. After six repeat rides, I returned to the bench where I abandoned K-K. My cotton candy had melted all over her! Even worse, the sweet scent had attracted many bees which were now struggling for freedom from the cotton candy web. K-K was livid, and her depression-era ways were scorned when I refused to eat the bee-ridden cotton candy! That was the last cotton candy I had for years!
